wishlist:unmanned drone part deux
So back on June 3rd (its archived) i wanted a Northrop unmanned drone. Now comes along a self-operating drone system. Apparently the government doesn't want me flying armed drones around.....Riiiiiiiiise of the machines.
Designed by DARPA, the Drone OS, is an operating system designed to allow pilotless drones to communicate with each other and pass data during flights. It also allows for remote management of software updates. Now, we all know how good Windows Update is. What the COS is supposed to do, eventually, is let the drones pass information back and forth between each other, with operators on the ground, and with manned airplanes in the sky. If all goes according to plan, the system will tie together the drones' sensors, giving the robots a single picture of a warzone. It will manage the aircraft's weapons array. It will make recommendations on when to fire. And it will manage the "balance between autonomy and human interaction" in each mission. Scary shit, when you think about machines completely managing a battle situation. Could this be called "Skynet"???? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiise of the machines. Call Arnold we need him....
