This sounds like the crate digging, indie scene record crowd, so the tracks inside are probably top-notch audible delights, hence the clamor. Keep your eyes peeled for more things like this in the future as technology will further enable niche groups to segment themselves from the mass. This really spins the idea of P2P on its head, but private p2p networks could be a sign of things to come.
